The towing process of a glider takes place in 3 phases:

  • Climb: The winch cable pulls the glider up into the air in a controlled manner. Here, the cable must not only withstand the pulling forces, but also remain extremely low in twist and rotation to ensure a stable climb phase.
  • Final phase and decay: In the final phase, the wire rope is gently disconnected while the glider is brought to the desired altitude. A stable and responsive rope is crucial for the controlled completion of the winch launch.
